From discovery to delivery, come help us shape the future of medicine.DescriptionThe Emergency Management Specialist reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.The Emergency Management Specialist is responsible for assisting Emergency Managers with development and execution of the emergency management program and emergency operations plans for Northwestern Medicine at the direction of the Director, Emergency Management-Business Continuity (EM-BC), the Program Manager, Emergency Management or the Emergency Manager of the hospital(s) to which they are assigned.This position will assist in the advancement of the use of emergency management and business continuity (EM-BC) strategies to achieve preparedness and response goals of the NM business units.Responsibilities:

  • Assists with the design, implementation and evaluation of the NM emergency management and business continuity programs.
  • Performs administrative support and educational responsibilities within the NM region to which they are assigned, working in collaboration with the Emergency Managers
  • Assists NM managers with the design, implementation and updates of department-specific emergency response plans
  • Ensures the emergency management notification call lists for the region to which they are assigned are up to date and makes necessary changes in the web-based emergency notification system
  • Maintains the inventory and ensures that department-owned emergency management equipment is available and in good repair
  • Ensures 24-hour availability of equipment and supplies in rooms designated as hospital command centers within the region(s) to which they are assigned
  • Responds on a 24/7 basis to emergency events resulting in activation a NM hospital emergency response plans within the assigned region.
  • Provides administrative support to the hospital Emergency Management Committee(s) and Subcommittee(s)
  • Assists in the design and implementation of emergency management educational programs, including but not limited to the Haz Mat/Decon Team and Emergency Operations Team
  • Assists in the design of emergency management exercises and coordination of exercise activities
  • Coordinates scheduling of emergency event debriefings and documents evaluation of response to emergency events (actual and simulations);
  • Supports colleagues in identifying and troubleshooting emergency management issues or concerns

QualificationsRequired:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (emergency management, homeland security, public health, etc) or significant work experience in a leadership role demonstrating equivalent mastery
  • Strong leadership skills, interpersonal skills and consensus building skills.
  • Operational problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications and Internet.
  • Strong writing and communication skills

Preferred:

  • 1-2 years of experience in a hospital or other healthcare environment
  • 1-2 years of emergency management experience
  • Completion of IS 100, 200, 700 and 800 courses
