A Brief Overview:
Responsible for managing, planning, administering and evaluating outpatient programs in order to ensure high quality patient care, teamwork and coordination of care. Determines work priorities, prepares daily work assignments, approves overtime and monitor compliance for regulatory requirements. Serves as a resource person for outpatient site nursing personnel in resolving operation and patient care problems, acts as physician liaison and role model for staff. Identifies areas for improvement, recommends revisions to procedures and implements same.What you will do:
- Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served. This includes knowledge of the physical and psychological needs of patients served and the ability to respond appropriately to those needs.
- Oversees the duties of the professional nurses which includes assessing patients’ condition, developing and administrating patient plan of care, documenting care administered and evaluating patient care outcomes.
- Coordinates the daily operations for assigned staff. This includes but is not limited to scheduling, staffing, problem solving, payroll and clinical supervision. Serves as initial contact for customer service complaints and assures follow up is completed.
- Assists in leading program retention initiatives. Assists director in conducting monthly staff meetings.
- Assists in overseeing and directing specific onsite personnel in order to ensure effective, cost efficient and safe provision of nursing care in accordance with established standards.
- Coordinates and ensures timely patient placement within program
- Authorizes overtime for direct patient care needs.
- Oversees work flows to ensure timely patient admission and discharge
- Works on routine program-based projects as assigned by the Director
- Oversees staff in planning and implementing delivery of patient care according to identified patient needs, collaborates with the medical staff in communicating and coordinating patient care. Utilizes knowledge and skills of onsite and department resource personnel in planning and implementing care and resolving complex patient care problems.
- Interviews, hires, orients, trains, develops and evaluates the performances of and, when necessary, disciplines and/or discharges department personnel. Provides direction, as necessary, to staff regarding sensitive and/or complex work, related problems, resolves complaints and responds to inquiries regarding department operations. Provides feedback to Director on performance of assigned program personnel.
- Develops and implements the department’s policies and procedures, ensuring overall quality of the services provided. Oversees the department quality program and actively participates on the Hospital Quality Committee.
- Assists the Director with development and implementation of new programs.
- Serves as a resource person for patient care personnel and aids in resolving questions related to policies, standards and patient care techniques and procedures. Regularly assesses patient satisfaction, investigating and interviewing for immediate complains or problems. Ensures completion and follow up of unusual occurrences reports and employee injury reports. Coaches others to maintain a clean and safe environment.
- Monitors compliance with regulatory agency standards e.g. CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments), JCAHO (Joint Commission), IDPH (Illinois Department of Public Health). Performs or coordinates assigned audits. Oversees provision of adequate supplies and equipment to provide appropriate care. Follows up on repairs/maintenance of equipment as needed.
- Maintains collaborative association with physicians to enhance teamwork of onsite staff. Maintains an overall knowledge of all patients’ status in order to act as knowledgeable liaison with physicians.
- Develops and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of hospital department personnel in order to schedule outpatient assessments, order supplies, gather and exchange information, resolve operational problems and improve services provided. Establishes and maintains effective internal and external working relationships, including those with physicians, government agencies, and managed care organizations.
- Participates in activities which enhance professional growth and development and ensures a current knowledge base of evidenced-based research and practice. Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by reading appropriate books, journals and other literature and attending related conferences, seminars and the like.
- Attends care plan meetings to provide clinical support to the formulation of care plan. Coordinates with the utilization review team to ensure appropriate pre-certification, authorization and payment of services provided.
- Addresses clinical issues in an Patient Safety Event Reports with clinical staff on an individual and/or team monthly basis. Develops, facilitates and implements staff development plans, conducts educational needs assessments, and identifies and coordinates training resources to meet those needs. Schedules and communicates staff development activities.
- Plans, develops and recommends annual unit staffing budget and assists in planning capital equipment and expense budgets. Administers and monitors expenditures and imple¬ments corrective action to resolve budget variances. Identifies opportunities to improve the efficiency of services and implements cost effective strategies.
- Participates with hospital management team in on-call rotation. Responds to emergency codes.

What you will need:Required Education and/or Experience:
- If RN, Bachelor’s degree or
- Master’s Degree and clinical licensure i.e. LCSW, LCPC, LCP
- Applicant who does not possess a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing (BSN) must begin course work toward obtaining a degree within first six months of employment
- Familiarity with continuum of care and assessment and intervention skills
- Knowledge of patient rights and laws pertaining to mental health
Preferred Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or related field
- Previous inpatient experience and management experience
Required License and/or Certification:
- If RN, State of Illinois Registered Nurse license or
- If State of Illinois clinical licensure – Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) or Licensed Professional Counselor (LCP)
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) certification within 90 days of hire
