The Program Officer, Local Government and Community Engagement (Program Officer) will be responsible for supporting the design and execution of strategies to engage city and county governments, tribal nations, community-based organizations, and other public-sector entities in the broad efforts of America Is All In. The role will involve the curation of resources and opportunities relevant to accelerating city and community-level climate action. Moreover, the role will include building and maintaining relationships with various institutions within the America Is All In coalition and with partner organizations that drive and support climate action by local governments and other actors.All In members include thousands of U.S. cities, states, tribal nations, businesses, schools, and institutions of faith, health, and culture that work together to champion a whole-of-society approach to addressing the climate crisis. All In seeks to build stronger engagement by subnational and non-state actors to influence regional, federal, and international climate policy so that they can implement equitable climate action in their jurisdictions and institutions.Responsibilities
- Maintains America Is All In partnerships focused on local climate action and manages direct engagement with city and county governments, tribal nations and tribal nation associations, community benefit organizations, and other public institutions.
- Considers and prioritizes how America Is All In can be leveraged to enhance the impact of local climate action and to harness large-scale federal climate policy for community-level action, particularly to the extent that Federal programs are dependent on state and local uptake.
- Convenes the cities and climate working group to promote coordination and collaboration across a community of like-minded organizations and help ensure efforts in the cities space are complementary and mutually reinforcing of one another.
- Identifies storytelling opportunities from local governments, tribal nations, and community organizations to inform All In communications; ensures robust public-sector representation and relevancy of content in convenings and events; provides significant support towards the delivery of climate justice strategies aligned with the goals of the Justice 40 initiative.
- Supports the delivery of coalition services to other All In constituencies, including but not limited to states, municipal agencies, cultural institutions, and international subnational actors; helps manage and track engagement from coalition members.
- Represents WWF and America Is All In in relevant meetings.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and 4-6 years of professional experience or master’s degree and 2+ years of professional experience in community engagement, public administration, climate and environmental policy, or other relevant areas.
- Background in community organizing, advocacy, policy design, or policy implementation is strongly preferred; direct experience working at the state or local level is highly valued.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. climate policy, familiarity with notable state and local level climate and energy policies, understanding of locally relevant programs under the Department of Energy, Environmental Protection Agency, etc.
- Outstanding relationship-building and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Project management experience, a proven track record of being a self-starter, and the ability to manage multiple tasks with appropriate supervision.
